Rachel’s Workshops

I just finished the last of a series of workshops with Rachel Sermanni where she shared some of her wisdom and insights into the creative process. Developing along the themes of the elements on a regular basis we came together online to play and share and it was a really joyful and inspiring experience.

Another key feature of the workshops were mini guided meditations called yoga nidra. Rachel has a great voice (naturally being a singer) that soothes the mind and puts one into a very relaxed state. However in this last one I experienced some feelings that took me back to a time when sleep issues were really a difficulty for me. I shared this with the rest of the group and mentioned a poem I wrote which related to this and I present this below.

To everyone in the group I am very grateful to have been able to play with you and be a part of this lovely community of creative souls. I’m sure I will keep touching base with you as Rachel hosts more of the like in the future and her future to me seems very bright indeed.

Here is the poem:

Threshold

At the threshold of sleep
Falling asleep and waking
I encounter the biggest challenge.

To step over that threshold
Is like a giant leap for mankind
Not a small step of ease.

But the threshold serves a purpose
To contain the scattered grains
Which are beaten loose on the threshing floor

Just like the thoughts in my mind
Which are sent flying by the hard blows
And I am grateful that they are contained.

To take a step, even ever so slight,
Upwards and lift one’s foot
Is a great action indeed.
