I Don’t Stop

Getting through the treasury of recordings on my Digital Audio Tape (DAT) collection I found a complete recording of a track I did when I was in Edinburgh in the 90’s called “I Don’t Stop”. Rather than putting it up on Soundcloud or Bandcamp I just thought I’d share it here. Why not? It’s basically the same as you can listen to it for free.

I used to be concerned about sharing my work from that era as I used a lot of samples. Of course there are a lot of legal issues surrounding the use of samples and as an artist I am all for people getting the recognition and recompense they are due just as I would hope that for myself. But the music industry has changed so much and the technology for listening to music is so different than it used to be that I’m not sure that the old system of intellectual property is fit for purpose, just as the system of property, especially regard to land, no longer seems to be appropriate for the times we live in. That is another discussion though and I am actively involved in exploring it. More on that in the future. I set up the Wild Type website to provide a platform for my views on that as well as on other nature related interests of mine.

For the benefit of everyone out there I can give you a couple of sources for the samples on this track. Firstly the rap part is from Method Man and Red Man’s “How High”. I used the acapella recording of this track for numerous mixes over Drum and Bass tracks, including one of my own which I released on Bandcamp. I found many of these on the DATs I’ve been copying recently as well. The other prominent samples both come from Paul Simon’s “Spirit Voices” from his “Rhythm of the Saints” album which I absolutely love. Apart from those the only other samples are sounds which I can’t recall the sources for but which are not so identifiable and have been used in my own way, i.e. drum programming and pad sounds.

The track is below and I hope you enjoy it. I did alter it a bit from the original recording by adjusting the EQ and volume but haven’t added any effects other than that. If anyone out there wants to give mastering it a go give me a shout!
