I just made another one of the tracks I uploaded a while ago to Soundcloud available. I guess that I’m feeling like the world is a bit full of Maniacs right now.
I actually wrote this track at around the same time as Another Friend. These all take me back to the period in my youth where I was really starting to go a bit wild on the hedonistic front myself but before I actually got into going out in a big way to raves and clubs. The set-up I used for this was before I got my analogue synth or sampler so the sounds to me were the best approximations I could make at that time to some of the dance music I was starting to listen to like N-Joi. Talking Heads were really the main band I was listening to and the sample (which was actually recorded straight from the TV into the mixer) comes from the movie True Stories, written and directed by David Byrne. The soundtrack is also a classic Talking Heads album.
It’s called Maniacs 2021 because that’s when I did a bit of remastering of the original tape version after I had recorded it into my laptop. Also I just have to say that I can’t quite believe that some of the other earlier tracks I’ve put up on Soundcloud are now saying that it was 10 years ago when they were uploaded. That was also a pivotal time in my life.
